My dear neighbour Jayne was asking me to keep an eye out in flee markets for an old ladder that could be used as a towel rack for her guest room. I was in a hardware store when I came across this very simple double ladder made in pine wood.
Ma chère voisine Jayne m'a demandé si dans les vides greniers je pouvais trouver une échelle qui pourrait servir comme porte serviette pour sa chambre d'amis. J'étais dans un magasin de bricolage quand j'aperçut cet escabeau en pin.
I thought it was the perfect size and a reasonable price so I bought it and transformed it into two decorative ladders.
J'ai pensé que c'était la taille parfaite et le prix était raisonnable alors je l'ai acheté et transformé en deux échelles décoratives.
Firstly I removed all metalware and plastic, only leaving the two wooden frames.
For the dark ladder I tinted the bear wood in a dark oak colour, and applied 2 coats of varnish.
Tout d'abord j'ai enlevé tous les éléments métalliques et plastiques pour ne laisser que les deux éléments en bois. Pour l'échelle foncée je l'ai teinte en chêne foncé et vernis deux fois.
For the second ladder, I tried Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for the first time! Last week I visited Misch Mash's shop, and I picked up a pot of ASCP Country Grey and some Wax. Nina's shop in Rheinfelden Germany is the closest place for me to get Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I was impressed by Nina's work. She has some beautiful pieces of painted furniture and lovely accessories. Nina told me of a technique consisting of painting a first layer of paint, then waxing, then applying a different colour of paint while the wax is still fresh and rubbing with a cloth. I like this technique, it shows the texture of the first coat of paint, giving a vintage look.
Pour la deuxième échelle j'ai essayé Annie Sloan Chalk Paint pour la première fois! La semaine dernière j'étais chez Misch Mash et j'ai acheté un pot de ASCP Country Grey et de la cire. Misch Mash, l'atelier de Nina à Rheinfelden en Allemagne est l'endroit le plus près de chez moi où trouver de la peinture Annie Sloan. J'ai été ébahie par le travail de Nina. Son atelier regorge de magnifiques meubles et d'adorable accessoires. Elle m'a parlé d'une technique qui consiste à peindre, ciré puis re-peindre avec une couleur différente avant que la cire ne sèche et frotter avec un chiffon. J'adore cette technique parce qu'elle fait ressortir la texture de la première couche de peinture, ce qui donne un aspect vieilli.
This was exactly the look I wanted for this ladder. So I first painted the ladder in ASCP Country Grey, going over with the brush as the paint was half dry to give more texture. When it was completely dry I waxed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. Then I applied a coat of white paint, immediately rubbing it with a cloth to reveal in places the coat of grey paint. I am thrilled with the result! Annie Sloan chalk paint is great. It has just the right texture, but mainly I love the palette of colours she offers, so perfectly suited for furniture... I think I'll use Paris Grey for my next project, a dinning room...
C'était exactement le look que je recherchais pour cette deuxième échelle. J'ai d'abord peint l'échelle en ASCP Country Grey, en re-passant le pinceau quand la peinture était à moitié sèche pour donner encore plus de texture. Une fois que la peinture a entièrement séché, je l'ai ciré avec la cire transparente Annie Sloan. Ensuite j'ai appliqué une couche de peinture blanche que j'ai immédiatement frotté avec un chiffon pour faire ressortir par endroit le blanc dessous. Je suis ravie du résultat! La peinture Annie Sloan est super. Elle a juste la bonne texture et j'adore les couleurs proposées, elles sont tellement belles et surtout parfaitement appropriées aux meubles... d'ailleurs je pense utiliser le Paris Grey pour mon prochain projet, une salle à manger...
